Jewish Family and Children's Services needs volunteers to help a newly arrived refugee family adjust to their life in America by providing in-home, culturally sensitive acculturation support. They are looking for compassionate and interested volunteers with good communication skills and comfort working with non-or limited English speakers. Minors are welcome but must be accompanied by someone over 18. Responsibilities can include but are not limited to; English language practice, daily living skills, bus training, community outings, activities with children, and homework help.
You must be able to commit to 1-2 hours a week or biweekly at a mutually agreed upon time for a minimum of three months. Required training and orientation is provided along with case supervision and continuing education. Act 33 & 34 clearances are required but are free for volunteers.
