Found a great volunteer opportunity but still need your clearances?  You may be required to apply for your Act 33 and Act 34 clearances when working with children or volunteering with vulnerable populations.  Below we have links to both Act 33 and Act 34 clearances as well as the FBI Criminal History Background Check.  Act 33 & 34 are both free for volunteers!

Pennsylvania Act 33 – Child Abuse History Clearance

Click Here to submit a paper copy.  Paper submissions of the Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance application will still be accepted for anyone who may not have access to the internet. Submit paper applications to:

You will receive your clearance via mail at the address you listed under “Requester name.” This process will take approximately 14 business days.

FBI Criminal Background Check*

Click Here and click “Register Online” to complete the online form.  The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is utilizing Cogent Systems to process fingerprint-based FBI criminal background checks. *NOTE: Unless required by the organization, you do not need to get an FBI background check if you have lived in Pennsylvania for the past 10 consecutive years.
